What does a pet sitter or dog walker do?
Put simply, a pet sitter or dog walker cares for a pet when an owner is unavailable. Maybe the owner isn’t available because they work long hours and can’t come home to walk Max during lunch. Or they’re traveling out of town and need someone to feed Stella and clean the litter. There are many reasons someone may need help with their pet, including travel, long work hours, late or early meetings, recovering from surgery or physical disability, or the recent birth of a child. We’re happy to serve our clients whenever they need us.
The great thing about pet sitting and dog walking is that pets can stay in the comfort of their own home, where they feel safe. Our staff travels to the client’s home rather than a pet coming to us. This reduces stress, separation anxiety, and exposure to illness or injury from other animals. Pets can follow their usual routines and benefit from one-on-one attention from their pet care provider.
What are your services?
We offer Dog Walking and Sitting services for our canine clients, and Cat and Critter Sitting for felines and other companion animals. The number of visits per day is based on each pet’s individual pet care plan, as determined by the owner. We also offer Overnight Visits for clients who would prefer that a sitter stayed overnight in their home with the pet!
In addition to caring for pets, we offer home care including bringing in mail, rotating lights, and watering the plants.
What areas do you cover?
We serve clients in the southern half of Montgomery County, MD. This includes Rockville, Bethesda, North Bethesda, Potomac, Kensington, Garrett Park, and North Potomac/Kentlands. We are accepting clients in Silver Spring starting April 2020.
Are staff background checked?
Yes, and we never stop there. A background check only tells you about past convictions and is not enough information to determine if you should trust someone with your pet and home! In addition, we use reference checks, personality testing and science-based training to make sure sitters are a good fit for our team. We would never send just anybody into your home.
What are your hours? When will my sitter stop by?
Our office hours are 9am-5pm Monday through Friday, however we offer drop in visits between 6am-10pm. Care outside those hours is covered by our overnight visits.
Your sitter will be there during a pre-determined time window. For dogs and pets with medical needs we offer a two-hour time window for arrival. For cats and critters with no medical needs we offer visits in the morning (before 11am), evening (after 4pm) or any time of day.
How will I know my sitter was there?
All visits are GPS tracked and timestamped in our TimeToPet app. After each visit you’ll receive a “report card” with photos and a message from your sitter. You’ll know what is happening in real time!
Will I have the same sitter every visit?
We try to schedule your primary sitter whenever possible. However, if your primary sitter isn’t available, we’ll match you with an alternative. The great thing about a pet care team is that all sitters go through the same training, know one another, and work together to give pets the best care. If you want to meet the back up sitter, you can always schedule a “Pre-Departure Meeting”.
How do I contact my sitter?
You can message your sitter directly through the TimeToPet app, no need to go through the office!
How much do services cost and how do I pay?
Drop in visits range between $25-$40. All prices are listed on our website. We’re happy to help client’s decide which level of service is best for their pet’s needs.
You can pay invoices through our app by credit card or ACH transfer. Payment is due by first date of service.
Are there any extra fees I should know about?
There are no extra pet or weekend fees. There is a $10 per day charge for holiday bookings.
Do you offer any discounts?
Yes! We offer a 10% discount on ALL SERVICES if you schedule two or more recurring walks per week. New clients can also get $20 off their first invoice by signing up for our newsletter.
Do you have a referral program?
Yes, refer a new client and get a $20 credit towards future services.
Can I book last minute?
Yes, however we do not guarantee last-minute availability. We understand last minute obligations come up and will try to help when possible.
What is your cancelation policy?
Bookings can be cancelled up to 8 days prior to start at no charge. Cancellations made 2-7 days prior to departure are charged 10% of the total invoice amount. If cancellations are made less than 48 in advance, clients are charged a cancellation fee equal to 50% of the invoice. Cancellations due to early return will be charged a cancellation fee of 50% of remaining services.
For recurring midday dog walks: Clients may have up to three fully credited cancellations per month if they contact the office or submit a service change request prior to 9 am on the day of the scheduled service.
Can you administer my pet's medication?
Yes, we can administer any medication an owner can give their pet at home. Please note we cannot administer medications to aggressive pets. If you believe your pet may become aggravated in your absence, we can help set up alternative plans.
My pet has aggression issues. Can I still work with you?
For the safety of our staff, we do not work with pets who currently have known aggression issues. This is different than a pet that is shy or reactive to strangers. We will work with pets who may need extra time and space to adjust to us. If you have questions about your pet’s individual history and behavior, please email us at email@example.com.
