How Often Should a Cat Sitter Visit? Finding the Right Schedule for Your Cat

When you’re planning a trip, one big question comes up: how often should someone check on your cat? You might think cats are super independent and can handle being alone for a few days. But is that really safe?

Remember that infamous 2018 tweet from actor Frankie Muniz? He left his cat alone for a few days, and the cat turned on a faucet, flooding his brownstone! It caused over a million dollars in damage. That’s a scary thought! It makes you wonder, how long is too long to leave a cat alone?

At The Right Fluff Pet Sitting, we require at least one visit every 24 hours. Some people question if this is necessary, but it’s really about keeping your cat safe and happy. Here’s why:

Your Cat’s Safety Matters

Cats are curious creatures. They can get into things they shouldn’t. If they get sick or injured, waiting days to check on them can make things much worse. Cats are also really good at hiding when they’re not feeling well. It’s their natural instinct! Often by the time a change in health or behavior is noticeable, it’s important to take urgent action.

Keeping a Routine is Key

Cats love routines. Keeping them on their regular feeding schedule helps reduce stress. We can visit once or twice a day to make sure they get their meals on time. A clean litter box also makes a big difference. Cats are much happier with a clean litter box, and it helps prevent accidents. No one wants to come home to a mess!

Protecting Your Home

Our daily visits aren’t just about your cat. We also keep an eye on your home. We can spot any damage your cat might have caused, like a knocked-over plant or a scratch on the furniture. We can also check for other problems, like a water leak, a power outage, or even a break-in. It’s like having an extra set of eyes on your home.

Even Hiders Need Help

You might think your cat is fine because they hide all the time. We once cared for two cats who were the best hiders ever! Their owners had allowed them to make their own “burrow” under an armchair. Whenever we came in, we’d just see two tails disappear as they climbed inside their favorite hideout. But one day, one of the cats got stuck in the bathroom, where their food, water, and litter were. The other cat was stuck outside without anything! Because we visited every day, we were able to fix the problem before anyone got hurt. We even found a way to keep the door open. That was the only time we saw one of them out from under the chair!

Socialization Matters Too

Even though cats seem independent, they still need attention. Being alone for too long can stress them out. If you’re going away for a long time, consider adding extra visits for playtime, cuddles, and socialization. It’ll make your cat much happier.
